Where are you located?

We're located in Los Angeles, California.

Where do you offer your services?

Currently we offer our services in the Los Angeles area including Pasadena and the San Fernando Valley.  Eventually we hope to expand our service area(s).  However, if you're outside these areas don't hesitate to ask us.  We may be able to make an exception.

What services do you offer?

Our goal is to become a full-service urban farm and garden company.  Currently we offer these services: vegetable and kitchen gardens, herb gardens, container gardens, raised beds, drip irrigation, rainwater harvesting, composting, worm composting, and urban farm animal-sitting.  Our services include garden plans, seasonal garden advice and ongoing gardening consultations as desired.  In the near future we'll also be offering raising chickens for eggs, and beekeeping.  [See "Services" for more information.]

How will I know what type of garden is right for me?

We will advise and go over options with you during our free consultation, and help you decide.

How big are the gardens you design?

There's really no size limit; it's all dependent on the needs of the client, and the space they have available to devote to a garden and/or urban farm.  We like to be flexible in this area.

Will I be able to choose the vegetables I want to plant?

Of course!  We work with our clients to come up with a list of vegetables to be planted.  The only caveat here is that not all vegetables can, or should, be grown year-round.  We'll advise as to what's in season, and what should be planted depending on the time of year.

Will I be able to learn about gardening from you as you work?

Yes.  We're happy to teach you what we know about gardening.  In fact, if you want to work alongside us, that's always a possibility.  The more people that know about gardening the better for all of us!

Do you plant gardens throughout the year?

Yes.  Southern California is blessed with exceptionally mild year-round weather allowing for the planting of vegetables throughout the year.  The vegetables planted in a winter garden may differ from those planted in the spring, and vice versa.

Are your gardening practices organic?

Yes.  We practice sustainable, organic gardening and farming.  We do not use synthetic pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers.

What is your gardening experience?

Front to Backyard owner-operator, Charles G. Thompson has been a life-long gardener.  A fourth-generation Californian, he grew up learning how to garden from his great-grandparents along the Central Coast of California.  In addition to maintaining their garden, they also raised chickens, and kept bees.  Charles was lucky enough to work side-by-side with them over a span of many years.  Charles holds a Certificate in Horticulture and Gardening from the University of California, Los Angeles.  He is a member of the American Horticultural Society, the California Native Plant Society, the Los Angeles County Beekeepers Association, the Seed Library of Los Angeles, and the Southern California Horticultural Society.
